You will never know if you don't try!

Megan is really interested in attending either BYUI or BYU. After watching two other children go through the competitive application process of these school, I suggested that she do what she can to prepare herself to be ready to apply next fall. In a nutshell, the application is broken up in different areas. 1. GPA and ACT 2. Extra curricular activities/awards/ leadership/service etc. 3. The final piece of the pie is an endorsement from your Bishop and Stake President. Each year it is becoming more and more competitive. In the area of extra curricular/awards/leadership many different areas are covered. Only what you have done since 9th grade counts towards this area.

Megan's resume is impressive however, she didn't have anything to show in the area of art. So, last fall I suggested she enter into the Weber High reflections contest because that would allow her to at least check the box that she had entered an organized art contest. Last November she entered. Weeks later, Megan was notified that she won at Weber High. A couple weeks later we learned that she had won at the district level. Last week she was honored at the region level. I was so proud of her!! She can now check off three more things on the application when it comes time next fall.

This is a good lesson for all of us. Besides her three checks, she has a beautiful picture that we have framed for her room. Her picture is called Black and Purple Petunias and is inspired by Georgia O'Keefe.

Congratulations, Megan! That is an awesome accomplishment. Maybe one of these days we can visit Utah and you can show us the artwork in person.
