Ties that bind us

For Christmas this year, my cousin Ann gave Tim, Sean and Adam each a matching tie. With this gift, she suggested that the three of them pick one Sunday a month to wear their ties. So Tim, Sean and Adam decided that the first Sunday of each month would be the day that they would wear their ties. Even though our family is spread out across the world, and the first Sunday doesn't even land on the same day because Australia is 16.5 hours a head so when Elder Marsden is going to bed on the first Sunday, Tim and Adam haven't woken up yet, I feel the "tie" that binds us together.

Another tie I have is the phone!! I am so grateful that even though I live in another state from my daughter, we are able to talk on the phone!! It is a rare day that Melissa and I don't get to talk to each other. We talk everyday, and sometimes several times a day. She doesn't talk to Tim everyday, but what she might not know, is that everyday Tim asks me "have you talked to Melissa yet today". He doesn't get to talk everyday, but everyday he is checking with me making sure all is well.

Other forms of communication that I am grateful for that helps tie me to people I love beside the phone are emails and blogs. I love reading your blogs!! I helps me keep track of your comings and going. Even though other members of my family aren't blogging, they still love to hear about blog entries and what is going on with others. I love getting my weekly email from AUSTRALIA every Wednesday night. WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN!!!

One of my favorite ties that bind are FAMILY VACATIONS!!! I subscribe to the philosophy that you may not remember the new couch your parents bought (and of course over time it wears out) but you will remember the time (and the feeling) you spend together as a family. I believe that vacationing with immediate and extended family really straightens family ties!!

Who's excited for the beach?

This year in Primary the theme is "My Eternal Family". I'm grateful that we have the opportunity of the ultimate blessing of the ties that bind us as a family for eternity. I love each of you and I am so grateful that I am so blessed to be part of such a wonderful family.

I am surprised (why should I be?) at the writing abilities and creativity displayed by "my girls" as we share blogs and comments. We love to laugh together and have fun but we all also have a very tender side that is inclusive. What a cute idea of Ann's with the ties. Beach you say, I'm there :o)

Great post, Margie. Very sweet and uplifting just like the spirit you always exude. We appreciate family ties deeply because as the more independent and adventurous :-) branch of the family, the branch that chose to establish ourselves far from our roots, we need those ties to keep us connected to the ones we love.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this summer at the beach!

GREAT post Margie! I love all of your "tie" annalogy's. I too, love the connection we all have through e-mail and more recently blogging. It's fun to give and receive comments with all of our family. I love Ann's "tie" gift. I've always loved seeing the men in our family wearing their Birmingham, England mission ties.

I am soooo excited for the beach. We have a whole new bunch of memories just waiting to be made!

Margie,

I loved this post, thanks for sharing all those wonderful family 'ties'. I think the matching ties for the men in my life is in the Christmas plan for 2009. With Bryan heading who-knows-where on a mission, Kelly in Baltimore, Mark in Japan, Jim in Colorado, Kevin possibly heading to Korea in the fall and Rob here at home it would be so great to know they all have the same tie to wear on an agreed-upon day each month. Let me know if you hear of any good tie sales going on...
