I BOUGHT A BIKINI!!!

Now that I have your attention, please let me explain. Megan is going to Southern California with the Weber High School Choir next week. In preparations for this trip, a few days ago, Megan and I went swimsuit shopping. Not our favorite shopping outing!! This was after time was spent online looking at modest swimsuit sites. We were in search for the perfect tankini. Stylish yet modest. I subscribe to the philosophy that a modest swimsuit is the goal rather than a one piece swimsuit. Both modest tankinis and one piece suits are hard to find. After 3 hours of NOTHING but swimsuit shopping, we finally found a tankini. However, this "perfect" swimsuit was too low, and it barely passed the "bend over the let me look down your shirt" test. It might have worked if Megan stayed upright the entire time she was at the beach or swimming, but lets get real! The other challenging factor, is trying to find cute board shorts (Megan did not want a skirt) to match and enhance the style and help with the modesty factor. The first pair of board shorts we found at Dillards and were lots of $, but at that point, if they fit, I was willing to spend. However, they weren't comfortable. After going to SIX more stores, wala, we found some at Target...and they were almost $30 dollars less than the ones she had originally liked, and they were comfortable!! I was so happy, I wanted to buy two pair for her, because they are white, but unfortunately the Riverdale Target only had one extra-small and the small was too big. A problem I wish I had. Anyway, today I am going to the Centerville Target after I pick up Tim from the airport to see if that Target has an extra small.

Okay, I hope you are still following this ramble!! However, we still needed to figure out a solution to the plunging neck problem. So I went out and bought a bikini (just the bottom half of the bikini; size 20 so that I could have plenty of swimsuit fabric to work with) so that I could take the finished edge of the fabric and sew it into the swimsuit to help cover more skin. I had to spend more $, but it was worth it to me to cover Megan's plunging neck line. I haven't fixed it yet, but lets hope it works!! Fortunately being modest is a priority to Megan too.

About now I can picture Lilian with a smile on her face being very thankful for all boys after reading about PROM and SWIMSUIT SHOPPING. Am I right??? Perhaps others of you too who don't have to worry about this either!!

So please feel free to express any thought or feelings on shopping for a swimsuit. As for me; the more fabric I have on my body, the better I look and feel.

I'm a bad Mom because I don't have anything to say about bikinis and swimsuits and the buying of them that anyone can use to inspire Young Women. I pick my battles so I may make a few comments to Tara about modesty and not showing too much, but pretty much my only rule is DON'T LOOK GROSS. Insisting on one piece swimsuits in our part of California would be like insisting my girl walk around her high school with "loser-nerd" written on her forehead (unless you're a Utah girl hanging around with other Utah girls just for a week in California, of course). Maybe if I have sewing skills like you I would most probably have fixed a few plunging necklines, too, Margie. So kudos on the creativity. I'm sure Megan will look great.

I remember many years ago when we were at "the" beach, there was a sign in the snack shack that said, "our burgers are like the girls on the beach, lots of meat and not much dressing". A perfect description of both. :o)

I saw the subject of this post on Marivic's list of recent posts, and was very relieved to find that it was you and not Tim posting :-)

I hate shopping for swimsuits with a passion! I finally found one last year and I'm hoping I'll be able to wear it for a couple more years. I think it's awesome that you're so creative.

I thank the moms who take the time to shop for the modesty of they daughters. I know it can be a pain for you but believe me when I say that MY BOYS APPRECIATE IT TOO! It has nothing to do with them being Utah boys either. It's because they appreciate girls who want to be modest. I will admit they drool a little if they see a girl in a bikini on a beach (after all, they ARE boys/men) but the girls in the bikinis aren't the girls they would want to date.

I'm glad I look sexy in a one piece, especially now the more I grow in the belly area...Adam won't even tolerate the baby wearing a two piece because he thinks the more lenient you are then its easier to be lenient later lol. Of course I would look sexy in a whale costume. I just have one of those bodies :)

Ha! When I read this title I was all worried:) Thanks for being such an amazing example Margie and I'm so jealous that Megan gets to go to California!

All I can say is, I am so glad that I don't have a daughter. You and Megan are great examples to others around you. I agree with Lilian and am happy that girls do take the initiative to be modest. My boys have more than enough issues with what is going on in the world around them that a girl that is trying to be modest is greatly appreciated.
