It was the first time that Tim has been able to come with me to help move in one of our children as they have gone off to college. It was awesome having Tim there to pack the car. He is a master packer. It is like watching someone put a puzzle together. He does a fabulous job and he was able to fit everything in to our car. Megan has been working on packing up her room since we returned from our trip. Throughout the summer we spent time buying dishes and bedding etc...then throughout the week the shopping and preparations continued.
By about 8:15 a.m. the car was all pack and we were ready to go.
We began our drive to Rexburg, Idaho! We talked, listened to music, shed a few tears, laughed and took deep breaths as we were preparing to send our baby away. Again, it was a HUGE DAY for us. When we arrived in Rexburg, Megan went to check into her dorm and pick up a key. On our end, we were lucky enough to score a parking place right in front of her dorm. We all carried in boxes, clothes, towels, sheets, her "Grandma Bea quilt", I-dock, computer, shoes, dishes, cleaning supplies, food, more shoes, books, computer, coats, make-up, flat iron, iron, a laundry basket etc... We then spent a few minutes unpacking and meeting her roommates. We didn't have much time because we needed to go on campus to pick up her books (that is an expensive trip), get her "I card" and then to the grocery store to pick up the rest of the food she needed (an attempt was made to pick her up too) and eat a late lunch at Subway... on the go. We went back to the dorm and did some more unpacking and talking to roommates before Megan and her roommates were meet by their "I team" leader to take them to a special students meeting while we went to a parents meeting at 3:30 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. we were able to meet back up with Megan so we could finish unpacking. We stopped to get an ice cream at Dairy Queen, paused at the temple for a few minutes, and we picked up an Ethernet cord and set up her computer as well as help two other roommates that were having trouble setting up their computers.
By 7:30 p.m. it was time to say goodbye.
A few tears were shed on the ride home. Okay, quite a few...and it wasn't just me. However, I know without a doubt this is the right thing for Megan to do. I am SO proud of her. She has worked HARD. She has PREPARED herself well. She has been blessed with a wonderful scholarship! She is all grown-up, but she will always be my baby. Even Melissa called today freaking out that Megan had left the nest. All I can say now is this day came really fast.
When we arrived home close to 11:00 p.m., we found two letters placed on our pillows from Megan. It was a nice treat and surprise. We smiled, hugged and held each other tight and went to sleep.

What a tender post. I got teary reading about how she left you letters on your pillows. What a great girl!
Very nice post. I'm confident that Megan will do great at BYUI!! And that you two will do great at home.
And we all think leaving a son at the MTC is bad :o(
So, when the letters are read and the tears are spent did you think
"Wahoo!! we are on our own"
Great post and three cheers for Megan!!!!!!
This was a sweet post. What a wonderful yet sad time. I think Bea nailed it comparing it to the MTC experience. We wouldn't want our children to do anything else than this, yet it is so hard.
My thoughts were with you all day as I imagined what you were doing and feeling throughout the experience of leaving your Megan at college.
