Wishing I was there...How about you??
Tim and Sean went with Derek & Dorothy to Haworth on Friday. They have been especially blessed with wonderful weather so far. They enjoyed walking along the steep streets, shopping and eating. Sean bought some Beetles sheet music in Haworth and Tim was desperately hoping a teenage girl would come into one of the shops so he could ask her
opinion on bracelets because that is the one thing Megan tries to shop for when she is on vacation. He said no one came in and he was at a complete loss as to what to pick up. They ate a a wonderful place that we had eaten at with Derek and Dorothy four years ago when we went with Melissa (one of my three favorite food memories of our trip with Melissa). One of my favorite parts about traveling, and life is food. So I always ask what they ate, and where they ate. I come by this honestly because when my Grandma and Grandpa Bench would travel, she would send postcards home describing the food they had eaten. Somewhere along the way, I have picked this up too, and I love hearing and thinking about it. My SIL Adam said to me once "for someone who loves food so much, you look pretty good". Thank-you Adam, I take that as a compliment. Any way...they ate Stake and Ale. I especially love trying things that are authentic to the place. I will try to remember to do a blog about my two favorite meals in New York if anyone is interested in hearing about it. They also visited the church in Haworth and walked along the pathways in Bronte County!! Friday night Derek and Dorothy went out for Rock n' Roll (you should see those two dance) and Tim and Sean stayed at their home and got some rest. I'm thinking "Party *******", but whatever.
Grandpa's home town...as a young boy
Saturday morning, Derek, Tim and Sean headed out to see some of Grandpa old or rather former stomping grounds. They were able to go to the home where Grandpa lived as a boy. I know Alan and Tara were able to be there too and posted the pictures of the home for all of us to see (you are so Awesome Alan, I am resorting to pictures off the Internet for now). Tim and Sean climbed over the fence and walked into the home. Tim said he looked around for something that he could bring home with him like the number 11 from the address or something else, but couldn't find anything he was able to bring home. However, more importantly, they have that memory, and it was really special for both of them to go inside together. Derek thinks the home will be torn down next week. They also visited Grandpa's school and enjoyed hearing Derek's stories of their dad/grandpa. Next they went to see Uncle Roy's grave and then went to visit Grandpa Archie's grave.
It was a VERY powerful and spiritual experience for Tim and especially Sean.
They ran out of time to go to the town of Marsden (they are going to try to go Tuesday morning) because they had another football match at Grandpa's home town football team of Huddersfied.
The three Marsden Men spent their Saturday at the match enjoying themselves ammensly. They were thrilled to be close to the pitch except for when a ball was kicked into the stands and hit Tim in the head!! He was worried he would be left with a big headache, but fortunely he was fine. Derek and Dorothy's rock n' roll friends (four different couples) came over to meet them and Derek picked up fish and chips for all to enjoy. I asked Sean what he thought of the fish and chips and he said he was really liking them a lot. Sean and I both share the fact that nether of us like fish (however we love seafood). I just think you must not be able to get good fish and chips in Utah. Because I liked them in Northern England too (but not in London). They both sounded very happy and pleased with their experiences of the day!! When I asked Sean if he would love to return to England on a mission, he said "YES, especially because I seem to be picking up quickly now on the language".

Gee Margie, I'm kicking myself for not thinking of hopping the fence like Tim and Sean. I so would have done it. Thanks for the update. And I'm with you. The fish 'n Chips in Yorkshire are delicious, not just the fish but the chips are great! I had it once in London (at a cost of about 18 dollars) and wasn't that great. But Yorkshire or London I'll do without the mushy peas.
Mike doesn't like seafood but he loved fisn 'n chips in England. Especially at "The Mermaid" and "Peter's Gate Fishery" in York. I do like a mushy peas.
I like mushy peas too- maybe it's a guy thing uncle Alan...ummm also that is really funny the ball hit dad in the head because I always wanted to catch baseball in the stands at a game, and dad caught a soccerball to the face. Sorry he got hurt...but once adam kicked a ball REALLY HARD (he was trying to get it high but ended up kicking it longways) straight into the face of a little girl who tried very hard to be brave- she didn't want to cry cause she liked Mr. Turney so much and she didn't want him to feel bad...but he did anyway.
There is just something about the fish & chips in Yorkshire, maybe it's the newspaper! The fish & chips that Derek brought home when I was up a few years back, were the best I've ever had anywhere.
Fish -n- chips in Yorkshire are the best in the world! And no Melissa, it's not a guy thing. Mushy peas make me gag!
Yes, I'm with you Margie, I'm wishing I was there.
Yes, I wish I was there. If I can just skip the long plane ride I'd go to England/Ireland like right now. And, yes, if I have money, too :-) I love seafood. Fish caught in island countries are just better and I love love love it. Alan showed me videos of the market in Belfast with all the fish stalls, and I feel right at home.
I don't suppose, if you catch a ball that gets kicked into the stand, that you get to keep it?
