YORKSHIRE PUDDING & ANCIENT RUINS...NOT BAD FOR A MONDAY

Tim and Sean have had a great couple of days. On Sunday morning they went with Uncle Derek to his ward/branch. He was teaching the lesson, so it was nice for both Sean & Tim to be there to hear him teach. They went to all three meetings and Sean said it was really fun for him to hear the English accent using the familiar words he is used to hearing back home. He was able to talk to one of the missionaries who is from Idaho and will be attending BYUI when he returns from his mission. After church they picked up Aunt Dorothy, stopped to have lunch & headed for York.

I talked with Uncle Derek, Tim, and Sean and they all told me about a performance of an Italian Tenor who was singing outside York Minster. They said it was so beautiful and enjoyed listening for quite sometime. I think both Uncle Derek and Tim put in some requests. Tim and Sean climbed to the top of York Minster. Then they walked through the "shambles". Tim said I would have loved it because they were having a Sunday market with fresh flowers, food and jewelry. Sound fun...doesn't it? They decided they would go over over to Peter's Gate for fish n' chips, but they were too late :( the dining room was closed. They were able to get some chips to go. I think I was more disappointed for them then they were. They didn't seem to mind a bit. Sean says that he thinks he has finally found someone who can out eat him.

The "Shambles" in YORK!!!

On Monday morning the four f them left to go for Whitby. I have been so excited for them to do this because this is one of my most favorite memories of when we went with Melissa four years ago. Lesley had told me about Whitby and I wasn't prepared for such an amazing experience. Sean loved it!! He said so far this was probably his favorite day. They were able to spend quite a bit of time exploring the ancient ruins, they went into the Abbey and loved the beautiful stained glass. Both Tim & Sean love to explore, and this was the perfect place. I also requested that Sean have a soft ice cream cone with a flake (Lesley had told me to do that too) and he said he enjoyed it for both of us. They loved the cobble stone path way to the top of the Abby and overlooking the North Sea. They enjoyed more Yorkshire Pudding at a pub and this time it was the big Yorkshire Puddings, so Sean was glad he was able to try both. They were both feeling a little melancholy thinking about leaving Yorkshire tomorrow, but are looking forward to London. I remember the first time Tim & I went to Yorkshire in 1991, Tim said he felt homesick for Yorkshire as the train pulled away. However, I'm sure this wont be the last time.

I feel sad for them :o( it is such a long way away, not somewhere you can visit at the drop of a hat. But perhaps Granma's prediction will come true and he will go to Britain. :o) But there is still a lot of the adventure to come. Two days of Arsenal, that will help take the edge of leaving Yorkshire. :o) Plus London to explore. OHHHHHHHHH yes! still a lot of fun to come.

I love Whitby. I remember being there with Dad as we sat looking over the sea and him telling us about going there for a school trip (field trip) when he was a boy. I love the food reports; Yorkshire pudding, fish 'n chips, and 99's (ice-cream with a flake). I have this theory: get off the plane and head for the nearest gift shop for a flake, crunchie, smarties and malteesers and keep enjoying 'til you go home :-)
