My "new" calling!

Just before Christmas I received a call from our Stake executive secretary. He wanted me to come down to the Stake offices and meet with one of the the members of the Stake Presidency. Long story short, I was called to be the second counselor in the Stake Primary Presidency for the Pleasant View South Stake. Our new Stake was formed in October, and it has been a busy couple of months getting everything in place. I had very mixed feeling leaving the Young Women's organization, and I will miss "my girls" however my heart melted at the first ward conference I attended. There was a brand new little sunbeam who was very worried to be in class. She was in tears! Her teacher was trying to consul her and take care of the other new little sunbeams that were getting more upset as this little girls was crying. I went up and asked the little girl if she wanted to come back and sit on my lap. This trusting little three year old girl reached her arms out to me and wrapped them around my neck and we walked to the back of the room. She just hugged me as though we had known each other for years. We then sat together and she calmed down as we sang the songs and quietly exchanged names. After a few minutes I asked her if she wanted to sit with me or go back and sit with her class. She quietly replied "sit with me". She continued to hug me until singing and sharing time was over, then she watched as her class got up to walk away. At that point she confidently jumped off my lap and held her teachers hand and walked away smiling and waving at me.

It will be a blessing in my life to be able to associate with these beautiful children and watch the amazing primary teachers and leaders that love and teach the children. My main responsibility is that I have been assigned to be over the Stake baptisms. Last week I was able to go meet four of the five children who are going to be baptized on Saturday. They were so sweet. I took around this little activity that we have for all of our new candidates that are being baptized. The first activity for them to do is to pray about their decision to be baptized. When I gave this activity to the first little girl and she read, "PRAY ABOUT BEING BAPTIZED". She jumped up and said "I haven't done that yet, I better go do it.

What an amazing church we belong to. In fact it is His church. The church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I am excited to be among the children.

Congratulations on your calling, Margie. Sounds fun and spiritually enriching. You are so nice for letting the little girl "come unto you", just like the scriptures say to do. It shows you are on a much higher level, because I on the other hand would have worried about my dry-clean only dress and not want Sunbeams-age kids hugging me :-) I think you are so ready to be Grandma to Melissa's baby :-)and I hope I won't be worrying about dry-cleaning when I get to that stage in a couple years or so...

You have a very tender heart Marjie. A wise choice in asking you to do this calling. You will enjoy it so much. Work yes, but then isn't everything?
